On the occasion of the International Women’s Day 2020 and in the framework of the Forum “Generation Equality” co-chaired by France and Mexico, the Permanent Missions of France, Mexico and Canada to the Organization of American States, and the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM), organize a forum on the " Economic rights and empowerment of women in the Americas. High-level panel of experts from the international community as well as the private and philanthropic sectors will discuss the concrete challenges and best practices in the Americas and share their views on what can be done to improve women’s Economic empowerment at all levels.
The Executive Secretary of the CIM, Mrs. Alejandra Mora Mora and the Ambassadors, Permanent Observer and Representatives, of France, Mexico and Canada, alongside the Regional Director of UN-Women and the General Secretary of the OAS, will give opening and closing remarks. The keynote speaker will be the Executive Director of the Chanel Corporate Foundation, Mrs Miren Bengoa.
The discussion will be organized around two panels: The first one will focus on national and inter-American initiatives addressing the question of women’s economic rights whereas the second one will address concrete initiatives and solutions through non-governmental initiatives.
As gender equality is a priority for France at the OAS, the Permanent Mission found it important to discuss the topic of Women’s Economic role in the Americas. This why we’ve launched this event, together with Mexico, Canada and CIM. It will not be a one-shot event as we intend to draw its conclusions and provide a roadmap for the major events Mexico and France will host this year for the “Generation Equality Forum”.
The event will take place on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, from 8:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., in the Hall of Americas of the Organization of American States’s headquarters in Washington D.C.
