Visit of Jean-Yves Le Drian, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, to Chile and Brazil
Jean-Yves Le Drian, the French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, was in Chile from July 27th to July 29th 2019. He is currently in Brazil until July 30th.
Jean-Yves Le Drian has been received in Chile by the president of the Republic, Sebastian Piñera, and met his counterpart Teodoro Ribera. He also met the president of the COP25, Carolina Schmidt. This visit, following up the visit of the president Piñera in France in October 2018, was the occasion to reaffirm the will of both countries to commit together to support climate actions in readiness for the G7 in Biarritz and the COP25 that will take place in Chile. The French Minister reminded the increasing economic links between France and Chile.
Currently in Brazil, the French Minister is going to meet the president of the federative Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, and his counterpart, Ernesto Araujo.
The Minister will talk about the implementation of the strategic partnership between France and Brazil, but also about the development of the economic and university exchanges as well as the cooperation concerning defense. Jean-Yves Le Drian will visit the naval base of Itaguai, one of the main projects of the bilateral cooperation between both countries.
Mr. Le Drian will also exchange about the requirements of France regarding to the conclusion of the agreement between the European Union and the Mercosur and will talk about environment questions in anticipation of the COP25.
