32nd session of the Human Rights Council - Adoption of a resolution on human rights, sexual orientation and gender identity (30 June 2016)
On 30 June the Human Rights Council adopted a resolution on human rights, sexual orientation and gender identity, which deplores acts of violence and discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people (LGBTI), and appointed a United Nations Independent Expert for these issues.
France welcomes the creation of this post, which it strongly supported. It will enable public awareness to be raised and cooperation with states to be strengthened, in order to facilitate the implementation of measures making it possible to prevent and combat these types of violence and discrimination.
True to its commitment, France is fully mobilized in the fight against the discrimination, violence and serious human rights violations of which LGBTI people are victims. It recalls that equality of dignity and rights must be respected for all individuals, whatever their sexual orientation or gender identity.
