United States - Abolition of the death penalty in the state of Nebraska
May 27, 2015
France welcomes the adoption in Nebraska of a law abolishing the death penalty. Nebraska therefore becomes the 19th U.S. state to abolish capital punishment.
While support is growing in the United States for a moratorium on executions, we encourage all of the authorities concerned to initiate a debate on the abolition of the death penalty.
France, which is consistently opposed to the death penalty everywhere and under all circumstances, urges all states that continue to impose this inhuman punishment to establish a moratorium with a view toward definitive abolition.
