OAS Hosts Debate on the Abolition of the Death Penalty in the 56th Lecture of the Americas
Featuring a presentation by Judge Jean-Paul Costa, President of the International Institute of Human Rights and former President of the European Court of Human Rights, the Organization of the American States (OAS) will hold on Tuesday, October 14, the 56th Lecture of the Americas on the theme "Reflections on the Abolition of the Death Penalty" at the headquarters of the institution in Washington, DC.
Following the presentation by Judge Jean-Paul Costa, Elizabeth Abi-Mershed, Assistant Executive Secretary of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), and Ambassador Pablo Barahona Kruger, Permanent Representative of Costa Rica to the OAS will present their comments on the issue.
The introduction and the closing of the lecture will be delivered by Ambassador Alfonso Quiñonez, Secretary for External Relations of the OAS and Ambassador Jean-Claude Nolla, Permanent Observer of France to the Organization.
The meeting will be broadcast live on the OAS Website.
