International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia

Statement by the Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development - excerpts (Paris, May 17, 2014)

On this, the ninth International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, France recalls its commitment against violence and discrimination committed on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity.

France is working resolutely to support the universal decriminalization of homosexuality. Everyone must benefit from all the individual human rights recognized by international legislation. (…)

This commitment is reflected in support for those involved on the ground who are fighting for the rights of LGBTI people, particularly through the international fund created by France with the Netherlands and Norway. It is also reflected in the initiation of a discussion, in conjunction with civil society, on how sexual orientation and gender identity can be better taken into account in French development policy./.
